Sing~

Happy 2016 friends! We have been bogged down with a nasty cold for two weeks now. I am kinda happy to have the holiday's behind us. They are a lot of pressure you know? Anywho, it's a new year and you didn't stop by to read my ramblings.

I have been waiting for a month to share this piece. It was a commission. Since it was a Christmas present for a special someone I couldn't share it until now.
"Those who wish to sing will find a song."~ Swedish Proverb

That's all I have for today. I'm going to find a nap. :) Have a happy day friends!

Not My Monkeys~

Occasionally I am asked to create a painting for someone based on a phrase or word (non-copyrighted). This past Spring I was asked to create such a piece for "Not My Circus, Not My Monkeys". I have to say that this piece challenged me in so many ways. It stood in front of my like a giant wall and I wasn't sure how to get past it. Well the only way out is through. I was completely over thinking the whole thing, to the point of paralysis. I started small, with a notebook and some sketches. I practiced the letters for weeks. I drew and erased the figures many times, and moved them around. Just when I had finished the pencil copy of the letters I realized that they were too large and wouldn't work with the rest of the design. I had to frog the whole thing and start over. My deadline loomed large and I wasn't even close to completing it. So, I walked away from it for a few days and painted other pieces. I needed to find my creative happy place again, and it worked. I was able to come back to this piece with a sense of refreshment. Things started to fall into place, finally! This piece became a real labor of love! I'm really happy with the finished piece and more importantly my client was too!

All in all I am grateful for creative challenges, the kind that take you so far out of your comfort zone they scare you a little. I mean what's the fun in playing it safe? :)

Sweetly~

Hello dear friends! My apologies for my lack of posts lately. I have been crazy busy with kids and their summer adventuring. Isn't that the way it's suppose to be though? I'm just happy that they let me tag-a-long (i.e. chauffeur them). :) I am enjoying a huge dose of artful MOJO lately. It's about time really, I had a major dry spell for awhile. What I have come to learn is that I just have to pick up my brush, even when I don't feel like I have an ounce of creativity left in me. Do you ever feel that way? The great news is that I have a bucketful of art to share with you Lovelies! Hurrah!

Allow me to introduce you to SWEETLY. Her superpower is kindness. She is waiting patiently for her next opportunity to sprinkle sweetness on the world.

I called upon all of the usual suspects to bring her to life (acrylic paint, watercolor pastels, ink, stamps, found objects, pens, various papers, a sprinkling of magic, and a pinch of sleeplessness.) and there she was. Personally I am a wee bit smitten with her.
Stay tuned friends, I have some awesomeness to share with you very soon. Until then. :)

Another Mixed Media Pocket Letter Part 2

There isn't much that I love creating more than Mixed Media art, combine that with my obsession for Pocket Letters and it makes my little artistic heart go pitterpat! :)

9 pockets of mixed media goodness with some goodies thrown in! I kept it pretty simple. You can see the me create the base here. I just loving digging into paint and getting messy. I hope my swap partner likes it.

Goldilocks~

It's a bird, it's a plane, no it's Goldilocks. She doesn't fight crime but she has really great hair! What can I say? Sometimes I don't have some deep message to convey with a painting. I just really wanted to use my gold paint. Teehee.

Goldilocks

So, here she is foot loose and fancy free, living her life in a paint splattered world. As always thank you so much for stopping by. You rock!

That Thing We Do~

I know you're not going to believe it but I was driving home today from a playdate and I started thinking about painting (that's not the part you aren't going to believe. hee hee), which I haven't done much of lately. I had this overwhelming feeling that I needed to paint this chicklet with honey colored beehive hair. Where did that come from? Who can say? I'm just happy that I jumped down the rabbit hole and saw it through.

It's been so long since I've painted a girl that I wasn't sure I still had it in me. I guess now I know, it's that thing we do. Instead of thinking about it I just need to pick up a paint brush and get to it. No questions asked. And that's the story of how this BRAVE girl came to be and how I busted through my block and found my mojo. Let's hope it lasts. So, what's calling you? :)

Mixed Media Pocket Letter Part 2~

I finally finished my Mixed Media Pocket letter. It had to spend a few days under a heavy book to help the page uncurl. I guess that's what you get when you use wet medium on card stock. I love how I was able to merge two things I really enjoy, Mixed media (art journaling) and Pocket Letters.

I kept adding bits of this and bits of that and I LOVE the way it turned out. I can definitely see making more mixed media pocket letters in the future. I hope my friend likes it! I included a small tutorial for the pinwheel paperclips. Don't tell but I kind of want to keep it for myself but I won't. Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed this Mixed Media Pocket letter series. It was fun to make. TTYL.

Chase Your Bliss~

"Inspiration exists but it has to find you working."
~Pablo Picasso

Sometimes you just have to paint and repaint until something comes together. Sometimes you get lucky and the end result is so much better than you could ever have hoped for. Sometimes I stand back and think to myself "I created that?". Sometimes I believe that I am an artist and that following this creative path isn't some crazy scheme I made up to justify my craft stash. Sometimes it isn't enough to simply follow your bliss, you have to CHASE it! Sometimes.

Something Special~

Good Morning friends! I haven't done much creating in the past few months. I just haven't felt like it. However, I did make one special piece in December for my lovely sister-in-law Teresa. As I have mentioned before we had a pretty bad 2014 and she was there for my husband and myself in so many ways. I wanted to make a little something special for her to show how much she means to us.

This piece took many twists and turns before it made it's way to being complete. I used a color palette that I normally would not dream of using and I LOVED it! When I was getting ready to assemble the raised elements it wasn't feeling quite like enough to me. Being me (messy girl) and the chaos that is December I happened to have a slew of cardboard boxes littering my craft around. It was a  happy accident that I reached for the cardboard and it turned out to be the perfect balance of texture for me. So, we have a 6"x6" canvas panel with layers of paint, sewing pattern tissue paper (perfect because Teresa is brilliant at all things sewing), book paper, twine, stamps, text, pen, marker, and of course splats, doodles and droplets of love and thanks. I think the metal Love charm is from Tim Holtz. That pretty much wraps it up for today. Have a fabulous day and I hope to be back soon with more painty goodness.

Patience~

"Patience is the calm acceptance that things can happen in a different order than the one you have in mind."

-David G. Allen

Patience

It's been many days that this little lady has been sitting, waiting patiently to be completed. The timing just wasn't right, until now. So, I give you Patience. I don't have much to say about her except that she has made me excited for things to come. Here's hoping for more painty adventures in the near future. Stay tuned! ;)

Hello Sunshine~

Hi and hello friends! I have been in such a funk lately. Not much creating going on and really just no creative energy. I was a dead battery. Maybe it's the kid's going back to school, or that Summer is over and I can feel Fall beckoning to me (it's my season) but yesterday I had the best creative energy. Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of time.

I figured it might be best to start with a little creative exercise, stretch those creative muscles and such, so I headed for my trusty art journal. You can never go wrong in your art journal. I can not express the wonderful feeling of having my hands in paint, for me it is like mana! From that exercise Hello Sunshine was born and I am in love! There isn't anything terribly technical going on here just simplicity and sometimes that is best. I hope you enjoy the finished product as much as I do. I can not wait to get back in the studio and paint some more. I think it's going to be a wonderful art season. Have a beautiful weekend!

Throwback Thursday, the Whimsy Collection~

It's throwback Thursday, Sherbert Ink style. Unfortunately, I don't have anything new to share but I thought it might be fun to dust off a few of my past favorite pieces and revisit them for a minute. :)

This is the second piece in what I fondly call the "Whimsy Collection". To this day it is still one of my very favorite pieces. It really made me feel like an artist. Sometimes I still can't believe that I painted it! HA! I love how this little guy looks so innocent and sweet. He very well may be my white rabbit of paintings,  I am forever chasing the feeling that I somehow managed to capture here in every new piece I create.

What would a collection of paintings focused on whimsy be without a flamingo in a top hat? :) This lovely little guy first appeared in May 2013. My sister gave me the challenge of painting a flamingo and so I did. It was a brave new concept for me to just paint something because I wanted to. I love his little top hat and his stance. He is definitely up to something! :)

Thus concludes my little Throwback Thursday Sherbert Ink style. Thank you so much for stopping by. With any luck the stars will align and I will get creatively unblocked and have something new to share really soon. TTFN!

Hope~

Many apologies for my long absence. This has been one heck of a year around here. Just when I think we are finally getting back to "normal" life swings in like a wrecking ball and knocks us off course. I can't even get into it really. It's just too much. So, instead I am going to share a new piece with you. She has been sitting on my desk in various states of evolution for over a month. I give you HOPE.

She has come so very far, the girl with the red hair. What I originally started out with is miles from where she ended up. It took me a long time to say that she was complete. She is sailing and she is accompanied on her journey by her friend the black bird and Hope, her trusty boat. I really feel like she is more then just a painting, she is a story humming along in the back of my mind. Who knows where she will end up. For now she is hanging out here on the sea of life, content. That's about all for now. I am going to try really hard to have some new things to share really soon. Thanks for stopping by.

Love You So Much~

Hello, hello Friends! My kitchen/studio is currently a disaster due to the fact that my lovely husband is installing a skylight. I am so very excited for the prospect of proper light in my dark, little studio. However, it's taking longer than expected and it is making it a real challenge to paint anything. :)

Love You So Much

I have been working on this piece for a few weeks now. I had it mostly complete and than just... nothing! It can really be a challenge to pick up where I have left off once the mojo is gone. This little lady might look a little familiar. Well, she is the second in a series I have been working on for ever so long.

Forever And Always

This lovely was the first. This piece really has a special place in my heart but I have wanted him to have a friend. I can't exactly say that I love her as much as I love him. Still she is a cutie and I will leave it at that. Who knows what is next. I can't imagine that this is the end of this series. So, we will just see what comes next. I do love an adventure! :) Thanks for stopping by.

Always~

TGIF Friends! We made it through another week! I don't know about you but it's been a crazy week around here.

Still, I wanted to make time to pop in and share this sweet little piece that was commissioned after my Art Sale. It was fun to paint another of these darling little 6"x6" canvas panels. It's such a fun and easy size. It is a huge honor when someone likes your work enough to ask for a specialized piece. That's all I have for today. Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a happy and safe weekend!

Waiting~

Finally, I have some art to share. It's been too long, I know! What can I say? Life has been busy and sometimes art just gets put on the back burner. It's really a bummer but not something I can control right now. Blah, blah, blah! ;) On to the art...

A nice detail shot, don't you just love it? What is she thinking?

Waiting

I have been working on this piece for ages. Seriously, M-O-N-T-H-S. It's high time it was finished and put on the wall. I just couldn't seem to get it just right. Once the painting was finished I went back and forth as to if she had something to say. Basically, I think she is just "waiting" and she is ok with that. The world is swirling around her in vibrant, violet swirls and she is just closing her eyes and waiting for... whatever. :) Seriously, thank you so much for stopping by Sherbert Ink. I hope you have enjoyed the journey. Have a lovely day!
Until next time.

Throwback Thursday~

It's Throwback Thursday friends! I thought it would be fun to pull up a few old pieces and see just how far I have come. Let's start by going back to the beginning.

Here's the piece that started my artistic journey. I was so eager and green. I kind of love that it started with FAITH.

I'm glad I kept on going because She'll Fly Farther is still one of my favorite pieces.

Fast forward about two years from before and a year ago from now. I tried my hand at something simpler. I love that I was still growing and changing and striving to find my style.

I thought I would really step out there and go a little crazy. All in the name of art.

That pretty much brings us up to date. This is mainly my current style. Girls on a multicolored multi textured background. I am thankful for art. I don't think I am the greatest thing out there but I am finally happy to be me and that means everything! Thanks for joining me on this Throwback Thursday art journey. Stay tuned for something new soon.

Wander 'Til You Find You~

It's a beautiful day for making art my friends! Truth me told it's absolutely gorgeous outside, almost too nice to be inside painting. Before I go outside and enjoy the splendor I have a new piece to share.

Wander 'Til You Find You

Usually when I create a piece the words come to me when it's almost complete. Wander 'til you find you has been spinning round and round in my head for days. I just wasn't sure what I wanted it to look like. At one point I  wanted to call it "everything but the kitchen sink". Ha! About halfway through I hit a really ugly phase. I am so thankful that I didn't just chuck it and walk away. A few more layers, a little more wandering and this is the finished product. Not too get too sentimental but it really spoke to me. I am going through a bit of a rough patch but it made me realize that I need to keep wandering. Things will get better.

As you probably know I finally reached 100 "Likes" on Facebook had my first giveaway and art sale over the weekend. I am humbled to tell you it was a smashing success! I am so grateful for your love and support as I chase my art dream. :)

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time!
xoxo~
